2017 Queen Elizabeth II Gold Proof Five Coin Collection

Celebrating the 200th Anniversary of the Modern Sovereign, the 2017 Gold Proof Five Coin Collection features a remastered version of Benedetto Pistrucci’s iconic 1817 St. George & the Dragon depiction on the reverse of each coin.

In addition, the coins also feature the engraved garter border inscription, which has not made an appearance on sovereigns since almost 200 years ago, in 1820.

The garter inscription reads “Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense”, a French phrase which translates to English as “Shame be to him who thinks evil of it”. This is, in fact, the motto of the highest order of chivalry in the UK, the Order of the Garter.

Struck in fine, 22-carat gold and with a Proof finish, the 2017 Gold Proof Five Coin Collection contains a Quarter Sovereign, Half Sovereign, Sovereign, Two Pound and a Five Pound.
