The Queens Beast

At her 1953 coronation, the then Princess Elizabeth walked into Westminster Abbey under the watchful eye of ten ancestral beasts, each standing 6 feet tall and carved by sculptor James Woodford RA.

Two lions, a griffin, a falcon, a bull, a yale, a greyhound, a dragon, a unicorn and a horse rose together representing heraldic badges of the generations of monarchs that ruled before Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Royal Mint has celebrated The Queens Beasts with a series of commemorative coins, the first of which was launch in 2017. The collection has become wildly popular and the limited mintage makes them highly sought after upon each new release.
