This delightful Gold Proof coin depicts when Paddington visited Buckingham Palace in Michael Bond book Paddington at the Palace;
‘When Mr Gruber takes Paddington to Buckingham Palace to watch the Changing of the Guard, there are so many people in the way he can’t see a thing. Luckily, a mysterious someone ‘on high’ appears to like small bears…’
The delightful reverse design has been created by The Royal Mint artist David Knapton. The obverse features Jody Clark’s fifth portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Paddington Bear is everyone's favourite marmalade sandwich eating friendly bear from Peru and has been delighted readers young and old since he first appeared in A Bear Called Paddington in 1958.
British author Michael Bond wrote more than 20 books featuring the polite Paddington Bear who has not only become an icon of children's literature in Britain but worldwide. Tales of Paddington Bear's adventures have been translated into 30 languages across 70 titles and has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.
Britain's love for Paddington is so great that a soft toy of the bear from Peru was the first thing British tunnellers passed to their French counterparts when the two sides of the Channel Tunnel linked in 1994.
