The Royal Mint has set the stage for celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Gruffalo. A well known and famous character of Julia Donaldson’s exciting children's book, ‘The Gruffalo’ tells the tales of the mouse (the protagonist) and its encounter with the snake, the owl and the famished Gruffalo deep in the forest. The Gruffalo’s anatomical description features a hybrid of both a buffalo and a bear.
It turned out to be a best-selling modern classic book with as much as 13.5 million copies sold worldwide.

The Gruffalo 50p coin with a Silver Proof Finish

Each 50p coin is made using specially polished dies to create a mirror-like finish know as Proof, this highlights the features of the Gruffalo such as its tusk, tooth and thorny spine.
