£2

Before the introduction of the bi-metallic two-pound coin into general circulation in 1998, The Royal Mint issued a number of single-metal, commemorative design £2 collectable coins. These commemorative coins were issued to mark special occasions, events and dates rather than for use in general circulation. They are legal tender but highly uncommon in general circulation. Like the 50p coin, the £2 coins have become a much sought after collectable for both private collectors and intrigued members of the public.
