The Sovereign 2020 Three-Coin Gold Proof Set

Limited Edition 750

This exclusive set features three editions of the 2020 Sovereign and has a limited-edition presentation of only 750 sets, less than the 2019 issue.

The reverse design has been digitally remastered from an original tooling by Pistrucci which is more than 200 years old. The digital remastering ensures a crisp and accurate recreation of this classic St George and the dragon design. The design was originally created in 1816 in preparation for the Royal Mints relaunch of the Sovereign coins 2 years later.

The obverse design features the fifth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and designed by the Royal Mint’ Jody Clark.

The latin engraving reads DEI GRA REGINA FID DEF. In its entirety, the phrase 'Dei Gratia Regina' or 'By the Grace of God, Queen'. FID DEF stands for 'Fidei Defensatrix' which translates to 'Defender of the Faith'; in honour of her status as Supreme Governor of the Church of England.

The gold Sovereign coin has been around for over 500 years. First introduced during the reign of King Henry VII in the late 15th Century.

Produced by The Royal Mint, the gold Sovereign coin has become a big part of British History. Issued in a range of finishes which can sometimes increase the gold Sovereign value.

Many investors buy gold Sovereigns as the coin is exempt from any VAT and Capital Gains Tax in the UK.
