In celebration of the Royal Golden Jubilee, fifty years since the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, The Royal Mint issued this 13-coin set in 2002.

This set contains the complete collection of UK Currency coins in Gold, plus the Queen’s Maundy Money. This thirteen-coin set combines to make a collection containing of 136 grams of fine gold coins.

Following the release of the Silver Proof commemorative coin sets issued by The Royal Mint in 1996 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of decimalisation, and then the millennium set in 2000; the Golden Jubilee coin collection is a Gold Proof collection of the year 2002 proof coin sets, with the addition of the four maundy coins which retain the original Queens portrait from her coronation year in 1953.

Maundy Money

Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter and marks the Last Supper with Christ and his Disciples. Every year on this day, The Queen's Maundy Money is distributed at the Maundy Service. These are held in cathedrals and abbeys in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. There are four coins in the Maundy Money set. 

The 2002 set as featured in The Royal Mints 2002 Golden Jubilee 13 Gold Proof Coin Collection shows the profile portrait of The Queen as designed by Mary Gillick in the Coronation Year of 1953, and these are the only coins of which the design does not change, except for the date.
